Exterior Memorial Mosaic

This mosaic is a memorial to Lauren Astley, a high school student who died tragically right after her graduation. Her friends chose to honor her life through the creation of a work of public art for the school garden wall. Their flower design is a symbol for their friend, with each of the five flower's petals representing one of her closest friends. Lauren's love of the beach, of warm colors, and of coffee are some of the references her friends included.

We worked together for two weeks at the end of the school year, with all the schools students as well as alumni invited to participate. The unveiling ceremony, on a beautiful June day, was a moving tribute to a wonderful person who passed too soon.
